Coronary Plaques

50% of patients who have heart attacks would never have had symptoms beforehand.

Coronary heart disease is the term used to describe the build-up of fatty deposits in the wall of the blood vessels supplying the heart muscle resulting in coronary plaques.

This can build up slowly over time and start to obstruct the flow of blood to the heart muscle and may result in symptoms of chest pain on breathlessness on exercise.

These plaques can also suddenly rupture causing an abrupt occlusion of a coronary artery resulting in a heart attack. For this reason, 50% of patients who have heart attacks would never have had symptoms beforehand.

Coronary disease can be caused by lifestyle factors, such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Patients with hypertension, diabetes and a family history of heart disease are also at greater risk.

Monitoring at any stage of coronary disease can help tailor treatment and identify potential complications early on and before the progression of disease causes potential deterioration in symptoms.

All our memberships offer access to the following general services:

What’s included

Our Coronary Disease Membership package includes the following:
icon
Annual consultation with your named consultant in person or online – it’s your choice
icon
ECG test – assesses your heart rhythm and looks for electrical changes that may indicate a change in the cardiac structure or blood supply to the heart muscle
icon
Echocardiogram (echo) – monitors cardiac pump function including whether there are changes to suggest that the heart has been damaged or is being deprived of adequate blood supply or whether valves have started to dysfunction.
icon
Exercise Tolerance Test – This is used to assess whether there are symptoms or changes in the ECG at high levels of exercise. These changes may be attributed to underlying obstructive coronary disease.
